Maybe with you leaving - you could be a big girl and tell him straight and as nicely as you can that its not his colour etc but his lack of acqaintance with personal hygiene. After all if he's prickly about it he can choose to change for his own benefit and won't have to face you every day if the encounter has been an embarassment for him. If he doesn't change - then its his choice.
We have a shy stammering smelly bloke at work for the 30 years he's been here I believe. Maybe he'd have more friends if people could stand to be near him for longer than 5 minutes!! I did manage to speak to him about his dirty clothes once and told him there was no shame in taking some pride and effort in his appearance and he improved a little so its always worth a try.
As for smelly people on the line - its that armpit stench when arrows are getting pulled that does it - only ever from blokes. I've only ever encountered one smelly female and yes its not a subject one really wants to broach

so you just hope they're not on your target next time.
