Hmmmm. I don't think ratty has been particulrly offensive, to be honest. I watched the video clip & I have to say that, his form & execution are excellent (if not Hunnic!)
I think that it may be a case that ratty in a naturally gifted archer (hey, some of us just are

) and is assuming that everyone can shoot to the standard he's at, for the time he's been shooting. I mean no offense by any ofthis, by the way. I think that the principle of learning to the bow that you're most enamoured with is basically sound, if you happen to have a natural talent for archery. It's like all sports, some folks are just good at i from the moment they start. Others have to work & practice very hard to acheive a standard, whilst others may never get there. For most of us, wehave to practice, train & be taught the basics of body alignment, form, release etc. & for us, learning this with a cheap, commonly availaible club recurve is a far better & easier way to go. I'm not saying that everyone should learn with a modern recurve & I'm not saying that everyone should go out & buy a milti-hundred pound (cost) longbow/hun/mygar/asiatic bow either. I would like to suggest that if you're asking on a public forum whether you should start with a recurve & then change styles, you are not sufficiently comfortable with your own abilities & that this would be the better option for you. If you think you would be able to shoot instictively & are not worried about attaining any particular scores or classifications, then go for it! Before anyone criticises me for this, I shoot American Longbow (It is NOT a flatbow!) istinctively, Hunnic bow with a thumbring, Unlimited compound & Target recurve. I've tried them all & shoot them all regularly. I'm better with some than with others, I enjoy some more than others, but not nesecerally the ones I'm best at!
Just as a little aside (& again ratty, not a dig) You're shootng your Hun as though it were an English warbow, not an Asiatic at all. Before you start to deride others for their opinions, it maybe agood idea to have a look at yourself. A hunnic/Maygar or Asiatic bow is shot with the thumb, with the arrow on the opposite side of the bow, not 3-fingers under & off the hand. Just an observation is all.
