As I'm out of practice and I'm renting my house, I shoot
in the garage. I'm worried I'm going to miss my foam target and spear the wall or door and have to pay for the damage. Plus the target isn't FITA specs. Although Old Bloke wrapped my package in a FITA target, so If I could afford a butt or a huge block of foam I could use that. But once I feel more confident, I'll move onto the drive and shoot
into the garage (weather permitting).
But, no, I'm not happy about not having a club to shoot with. I did my beginner's course at Royal Richmond (
GNAS affiliated) and planned to join, but then I ended up coming here and there is nowhere to shoot. Well, I could shoot at the gun range if I was into 3D and wanted to hit plastic animals, which I don't.
I think other states have a wider choice of clubs, and the choice in general is wider for JOAD (the US junior target archery scheme). Otherwise, what's left is university clubs. But unlike several uni clubs I've come across in the UK, this one is only open to students. I corresponded with the president of the university club in the autumn when I first got here about letting me shoot. I told her it could be a money-making scheme for their club. I'm sure there are other target shooters who are looking for a place to shoot. They could require non-students to have their own equipment and charge them twice as much or more to cover wear and tear and insurance.
They weren't interested.
So for now, it's the garage for me.
