I didn't see the original link to the sendspace download as the post was removed, but it's entirely possible that the file was accidentally infected before uploading. It's also possible, however, that the user who reported the problem had the infection already and didn't know - result, a coincidental point towards the download.
Either way, I think removing the post was the right action - removing the user may have been an overreaction but our primary purpose here is to protect the membership and posters who have a zero or low post-count have to be treated with much suspicion until they prove to be trustworthy (there were other factors which were taken into consideration which I will not go into here).
Sounds like there was an unfortunate chain reaction here, but no doubt can be fixed and the membership can rest easy that the mods are looking after their global interests as well as humanly possible.
