I never pretwist a string when serving it. I have never had any problems reserving either. Sometimes if its not tight a string can twist up when putting the serving on. Its always best to apply the centre serving in my opinion with the bow string; the end serving with the jig on max tightness. This is what I fould helped me to make good strings. But whenever fiddleing with the string always check brace height etc and do a quick retune.
