This is (yet another) hobbyhorse of mine. Could we not even manage a co-ordinated tournament calendar? Start off with national Champs and events (including things like AGM). Nothing at County/Regional level to clash with them. Regional Champs - why not have them all on the same days - no one can compete in two anyway, except as visitors. Even County Champs - have them all on the same days for the same reasons. Then no one has to decide between two "Majors" Similarly, have County AGMs all on the same day, and regional AGMS four weeks later, four weeks before Home Nation, four weeks before GNAS (or so). There are usually two objections: that would mean being dictated to by GNAS, so we won't; we have always had our shoot on the fifth Sunday in February.
I think the benefits would be two fold. Firstly the "major" shoots would not suffer by having people decide between them (and, if handled properly, could form the basis of a progression pyramid). Secondly, local shoots could be put on without having to compete against majors on free days if they wanted. Oh, and the bit about the AGMs would mean that the decision structure of the organisation could actually work.
