Last week I fancied an evenings shooting so went down to Phoenix's ground in Halifax bow in hand and all went well until the clouds of midges descended turning the air around almost black. Needless to say concentrating on archery is difficult while you're been feasted upon and it doesn't help with the scores.
This Wednesday came and I fancied another evening of archery so popped into our local camping and outdoor equipment retailer to find bug spray. 2 minutes later I left with a 50ml bottle of
Lifesystems Expedition + Plus, 50+ insect repellent for £4.50.
After applying a few squirts to hair, neck and assorted exposed flesh I jumped in the car with archery in mind. It worked 100%, not one single bite. As a rule of thumb if there are biting insects about I'm bitten first, my wife uses me as an indicator and one of our members left once the biting started.
It contains DEET so has all the usual cautions of don't apply to synthetic substances or plastics so as long as you keep it off your specs and quiver you'll be fine unless you have a thing for 70's fashion in which case you may have a problem.
I know there is a thread regarding an Avon product with similar effects but I thought that this was worthy of it's own post as I'm so very happy with this product. It will remain a permanent piece of my shooting equipment from now on. It comes in 4 strengths 25, 50, 50+ and 100 and doesn't smell to bad.
On a side note it turns out that keeping the midges away didn't improve my scores any so bang goes that excuse.
