Karen, if you are using a longbow with wooden arrows then taking a little but off the inside of your nock will not hurt - especially if you are currently using 'plastinocks' as they have two very small pieces of plastic that the string has to pass by before reaching the bottom of the throat of the nock. By removing these 2 bits your nocks won't be as tight coming off.
However if you are using a recurve or compound bow then don't alter your nocks just get the right string and nocks that work together
