You have to be careful with backgrounds in skins - especially where text resides, as so many people like to use different fonts, they don't always (ever?) check them in the skins they don't normally use, resulting in unreadable text for some (you'll note I forced the background colour on my user page for that very reason) So, whatever you do, please make sure the text backgrounds are relatively consistent please
