Heads up for our clubs Horace Ford Longbow Shoot.
"The round to be shot will be a St Leonards Round consisting of:
Gentlemen, 6 ends at 80 yards and 7 ends at 60 yards
Ladies will shoot 6 ends at 60 yards and 7 ends at 50 yards
Juniors will shoot the same number of arrows but at 40 yards and then 30 yards respectively. (
GNAS Rules will apply).
The St Leonards round was popular in Victorian times and Horace Ford mentions it in his book, “Archery, its Theory and Practice”.
There will be a lunch break between distances.
We will use a Victorian method of scoring which is quicker and less arduous than the present day method. (Apparently)
There will be prizes for first, second and third places for senior gentlemen, ladies and juniors
Additionally there will be prizes for the best Horace Ford look-alike and best ladies interpretation of a ‘Mrs. Ford’. Otherwise any reasonable archery attire will suffice.
The venue will be at 1066 archery club’s ground at Northiam, East Sussex.
Assemble at 10.30 am for sherry.
Sighters at 10.45am
Barbecue food will be on sale, tea and coffee will be free.
The cost of the shoot will be £5.50 for seniors and £3.30 for juniors. Cheques payable to 1066 archery club please.
