So, really, it surely isnt down to whether the bow is any good, its just down to which bow suits the shooting style of that one archer... Which surely would be found by the archer long before reaching such a high level?

I would suggest that a "Top coach" would be in a better position to :
Observe the relationship between an archer and their equipment
Give unbiased feedback to the archer about that equipment
Suggest equipment changes that would allow the Archer to increase their scores in the long term.
If I had the attention of someone skilled in the art and science of coaching you can bet I would listen to what they had to say and act on it - or expect them to provide their skills and experience to someone who will.
