Did I hear my name
Thanks for the headsup on this Worthipa.
Yes, Hoyt's new limb bolts that are painted black are now alluminnium, rather than steel as they used to be.
I believe this is a genuine problem, and I know of several cases where these have snapped involving Border
and Hoyt Limbs.
From what I have heard, Hoyt are trying to push the idea that Border limbs are to blame for this and that the ILF is not a universal standard so they can't be blamed bla bla bla.
Piccies:
This bow was
never adjusted whilst strung and only ever had the very best care taken of it (yes, I can be a bit anal about my equipment).
This bow was one of the first couple that came into the county, and I had it straight out off the delivery, so I know it wasn't played with before I received it.
I now have original stainless steel bolts, and will not be going back to these black bolts. The black (alluminnium) bolts are lighter, but I don't want another lump on my head and another pair of knackered limbs. Also I can't tell the difference in weight (but I do shoot a heavy setup).
All that's required to avoid this is to check the limb bolts when your putting your bow together. They start to break on the join of the head to the body (you can see where they are broken on the picture) so just look for cracks.
After speaking to a couple of enginneer's this is considered a very bad design and they can't understand why they were changed from SS to alluminnium.
However, it has to be said that there are only a few isolated problems and I wouldn't want anyone to think I was scaremongering. It is worth keeping an eye on your equipment though.
