Some years ago (early nineties?) GNAS used the NIA in Birmingham for the National Indoor Championships - bit a forerunner to the 1995 World Indoor Championships held there. The team running the one I shot in (can't remember the year) did a great job, but it was a huge piece of work. Its the sort of event that to some extent requires a paid organiser/organisation team, who can work at it with more time than the organisers who hold down full time jobs but still work to put on some great events for us.
As I say, the idea is great, and I would guess if someone was willing to take up the challenge and think about it, the guys in Nimes would be prepared to give some guidance. |
Just to clarify.
None of the ~100 volunteers who prepare all year long and then run the Nimes Shoot a single week end are paid (plus some of them take non paid vacations the week prior to the shoot). Part of the team comes from others local Clubs, not paid too. I know that travel and hotel are paid for a very small part of the team that help as volunteers too just during the shoot (some judges, part of the results team and some others) but that's all.
About the cost of the Nimes shoot.
In an article in a local newspaper the Tourney Director said that the 2008 shoot budget was about 200.000€ (25% from the city of Nimes and the Languedoc-Roussillon region, about 25% from the registrations and spectators entry fees, all the rest from the sponsors).
On our forum a member of the organization wrote that the 2008 shoot budget was 280% more than 11 years ago when they started this adventure. At that time there was only one venue, foreign archers where only a very few and coming IIRC from six countries and there where no more than ~150 archers. At that time even judges who came from others regions paid their trip and stay.
And yes, the price of the venue is important in the budget.
