I agree that blank boss shooting is useful if you are trying to feel something, I have often found that the lack of feedback from a "target" which is any reference point for where the bow was pointing, means that it is hard to develop consistent form this way. Essentially I have found that I do not have enough ability to feel how muscles and bones are moving to shoot consistently by feel - I need to see whether the shot was like the others and use that feedback to develop a consistent routine. However I am aware that this is generally considered to be a flaw in my own perception, and that most top archers are able to do this. My response can only be "lucky them" as I just can't do it.
