IIRC
GNAS does not require persons do a beginners course in order to become a member. Beginners courses are an option for clubs to take on persons and give them some tuition and be covered by
GNAS insurance before they actually join
GNAS or the club. Technically any club can sign up a total novice and organise
GNAS membership for them before they have shot a single arrow.
If a local leisure centre has an Archery Leader or
GNAS Coach running courses for novices IMHO they are doing the local clubs a huge favour. I would be delighted if every new person interested in joining our club had been through such a course at the local leisure centre before approaching us
