Its better lower than higher, but the lower you go, the greater the potential of interference with the shelf. Make sure your knocking point is higher than the rest so the arrow is pointing ever so slightly down so the knock leaves the string higher than the point else this may cause interference. Then once you are sure you have no clearance issues with the spray method you would be advised to fine tune for example using paper tuning.
