| Windy Wadebridge With passport and my Linda packed it was up early and off to the Atlantic coast for a York. Drove past Launceston and could see that all the Dunheved archers were still relaxing in their beds which included trequoit, and who can blame him. Despite what the forcasters said, I knew it was going to be a windy day, when driving over Davidstow Moor, some twit had left all the fans on. Anyway, consulting my diary it turns out that it was twelve years to the day that I was last at this venue. Not too many had turned up, which was dissapointing, especially as this was a Cornwall shoot and really should have been better supported by archers from Cornwall.
As luck would have it, as soon as the whistle blew, someone up the road turned the fans onto "blast" mode and the day turned out to be a tricky one with the wind from no general direction. Lunch soon came around and tea and coffee was at a price that all could afford and the cakes were yummy, scrummy...8/10! The sum came out for the 80yds and we all strted to get sun and wind burn. 60yds arrived and the wind got uo even more but this time at a 90 degree angle which slowed us all down. It turned out to be a good shoot despite the wind (which has to be expected when shooting on a cliff.....next stop America) and the scores were close. The field was cleared in double quick time thanks to a very active field party and as the last target was put away into the shed, someone turned those Bl**** fans off an a dead calm fell over the field!!! A good day out but where were all the Cornish archers.....hey guys....support them or loose them. Must go now, got to polish my medal. The winning score for the York of 1000, was the same winning score shot 12 years earlier. Well there's progress! |
