Yes can respect - they have a proven track record and can cite pass rates.
If you keep failing they will cut you a break and you get discounts on lessons. Most driving instructors have a "fail and we'll give you a free one" sort of offer.
While lots of people were just taught to drive by their parents, that's less predictable about passing than time spent with a qualified instructor - e.g. some people chronically fail because their dad never told them to check their blind spot.

I guess the big difference is that there are lots of "parents" in archery and very few full time professionals, but no qualified freebie driving instructors.
There are also some crap professional driving instructors who survive due to sheer numbers of candidates.
Perhaps if archery was as popular as driving.........
I rang my local college and told them I wanted to do a degree in physics on a thursday evening 7-9 starting next week. The tutor must have a proven industry record (5 years at searn would do it) oh yes, and no tuition fees.
