As most beginners come into archery via the recurve route I would guess that the sale of beginners recurve bows is high with very few beginners choosing to buy compound equipment. This would also explain why there is a heavier weighting of recurve archers by % at club level tournaments.
I think a clubs general "ethos" for want of a better word may influence bow choice. At Pines Park, NFAS, Myself and Sarah are the only regular compounder's. Flat-bows, and re-curve barebow rule. I doubt if I see more than 4 or 5 compounds at club shoots. Yet when we hold an open shoot, compounder's form a sizable majority of entries.
