This part is fascinating! Could you give us a rundown on how your club managed to get these grants, what the process was like from the start of the project to having a finished ground and clubhouse? Costs? Personally I'd find it really useful, and I'm sure others would too.

the reason I am writing this is we had a working party last night for an up coming tournament, and again the same old faces come down to help as with any other working parties or helping on beginners course ... |
Our club has the same problem, many do. I think one good way to encourage more people to come to these things is to make it a social event too. We share our field with some American footballers, and the other weekend they were putting up their posts whilst at the same time their supporters were cleaning and painting the shared clubhouse. There was food and beer, which seemed to draw people in quite nicely! I reckon you'd get more takers for a BBQ and work party than you would for a plain old work party.
Beginners course helpers are a slightly different issue. I can't seem to get any more than one helper (the ever reliable club sec) in addition to the qualified coaches, despite endless cajoling and pleading. I can't work out whether it is because they don't think they are capable or whether it is sheer selfishness, to be honest.
