| My ex-club was one of the few who had more compounder's than recurvers (about 80:10:10 with the longbow). I was one of two gents recurves, usually by far the most common class.
The experienced archers were mostly retired, or in their 50s, and shot compound or longbow. Hence the beginners tended to take up compound or longbow (with some strange perceptions of what this meant).
Not exactly an accurate picture of the sport of archery but one that did proliferate, and it was probably the fact recurve dominated in uni that meant I took up recurve too.
