The experienced archers were mostly retired, or in their 50s, and shot compound or longbow. Hence the beginners tended to take up compound or longbow (with some strange perceptions of what this meant).
Not exactly an accurate picture of the sport of archery but one that did proliferate, and it was probably the fact recurve dominated in uni that meant I took up recurve too. |
My old club, Silvertree archers was the same, maybe due to the influence that a lot the of the first archers in the UK to shoot compound were members, but it became a compound/primitive club, with a few re-curvers in the middle. Probably 50/10/40 split. I fact, at some events, like national champs, we struggled to get enough re-curvers to enter club teams where there had to be different styles in the mix.
