It depends one your level of manual dexterity, TBH.

I have always worked with tools and so find that I can quickly and easily remove vanes from alluminium and carbon shafts with a craft knife or scalpel without any damage by using the correct pressure, angle and technique coupled with a very keen edge. Some don't have this level of skill with hand tools and so a dedicated tool like the zip-stip is possibly a better bet.

Just be careful of the emporer's new clothes syndrome that surrounds some products in this game.

Perhaps you could experiment on some club shafts by volunteering to help with maintenance or maybe borrow a zip-strip from a club member to try it out.
