Just think of the thread on a bolt...Turn the nut clockwise and it will go away from you further down the bolt...Now turn it the opposite way and repeat....once again it goes away from you.
The string whichever way you look at it is the same. The only pre-caution needed is checking the way the original serving was applied..... To put another spanner in the fan....the end servings and the centre serving can in fact contradict each other if not served correct, by that I mean they could be served opposite ways...
