Can't comment from personnel experience cos i only been shooting a year.But i am a "string freak".Everything i've read on string wear and tear points to a few basic facts

When you notice that you suddenly start having to add more twists than normal into the string,to obtain your normal bracing height its a sign that its past its best.You should also notice that your sightmarks suddenly get worse as well.The other way to tell that its time to change string is if it becomes too scruffy.

The basic concensus is that the average club archer should change a well maintained string once a year.
