| Nano XR oddness I got a box of Nano XR to test a while back, and found some strange things about them. Anyone else found these?
Here is what I did:
- I was advised to take a spine weaker than my normal ACE spine (by the supplier) so I followed this advice.
- Using the spine/point weight guide gave a stupidly piddly small point, so I put a decent size one in instead (after all, Marcus26 mentioned somewhere that point weight does not affect spine, and I'm inclined to believe him).
- Fletched with standard "Range-o-matic" spin wings.
- Used the "Nano Pin" with standard pin nock.
Here is what I found:
- They're really really short! The uncut length was shorter than my ACEs! (Later this will be shown to be useful).
- After preparing the shaft as I would an ACE (wipe with piece of kitchen roll), I found the Spin Wing sticky tape wouldn't stick (unlike my ACEs). I decided to clean them properly with isoprop, but even after this the vanes were not very securely stuck. I was loth to use acetone as I was concerned that it would damage the carbon.
- Components fitted well.
When shooting:
- With only basic setup the groups were promising.
- The normal Easton pin nocks showed a noticeable unwillingness to stay on the Nano pins (which I have never seen in about 4 years of using Easton pins)
- I soon noticed vanes unsticking in flight. At first I thought this was due to the poor hold on the carbon, but by the time I had set them up properly I had found enough vanes which had ripped on the shaft that it occurred to me that they were *hitting the button* despite the fact that they seemed to be flying correctly. My explanation for this is that they are very springy, so while being weaker than an ACE they can return better to their original position (in the "paradox").
End result:
The arrows were returned, with no problems as they had not been cut.
