I've only got recurve & longbow experiences to go by, but I'd say that chalk helps your visual skills & cheese refines your sense of taste.
There are certainly things to be learnt about shooting from each of the disciplines, but most of them are non-transferrable IMHO.
I learnt quite a lot about recurve shooting from my target air pistol, but also confused myself into a 10 point drop in scores by forgetting which shot process I was using the autopilot for.
