It's a problem because no-one has the time to stop and dig out
every beep on the MD. The standard pattern is: MD beeps, run it forwards/backwards a bit to see if you have a line registering. If it's just a small area, leave it. Typically you get
lots of single point detections, especially on playing fields (lost studs). I wouldn't attempt to find an all carbon (or wood) shaft with an MD, you're better off with a rake.
One particularly irritating false reading we had on our field looked just like an arrow, until we finally got fed up and dug up an old iron fence railing which must have been buried for years.
Other "finds"; part of an old cricket trophy, a dud .45 pistol bullet (WWII vintage), a 9 carat gold wedding ring (buried a good 6 inches down, must have been there for years), lots of bits of tinfoil (sweet wrappers, cigarette wrappers).
