A Grand Day Out.

Just got in from the Toad's shoot at the Crownhill Fortress, Plymouth. What can I say? To all those who read this who were involved in the setting up of this shoot, I sincerely hope that, of those who attended that their fullest appreciation was given. Having run shoots myself, one only has to stand and review the hard work that went into the running of the competition. To sort a safe shoot which was testing in the traditional sense and yet was a fun day out deserves applause. With so little *ground* to work with, who would have thought that a *field* shoot could be shot from inside of passage ways, gun emplacements and stairways? Not me.! Very little room was used to maximum effect and this was greeted with joyous support from the archers..there really was a buzz about the place with many a cheer and shout as arrows found their mark..even if it mean shooting down the barrel of a huge great cannon!
For the traditionalists out there who think that this isn't *real* archery, just consider what archery is..the use of bow and arrow in any shape or form..today was a great day of archery and for archery.
Well done to all those involved and if you see this shoot advertised either on here or the NFAS website next year, get in quick as it will probably fill within 24 hours.

I've posted a few pictures on the Old Bloke's photo pages if you want a look at what you saw or missed.

Toad Hollow's Fortress Shoot

I have to say, what an excellent and most unusual shoot I enjoyed today at the "Fortress Shoot".
Many thanks to Ian and his whole team for fulfilling "Pastie's" dream of running a shoot at this particular venue.

It was very evident that such a lot of work had gone into planning and organizing this event.
Well done to all the marshals. This is the sort of support that your leaders deserve. The marshals were not only plentiful, but were obviously well trained in their individual duties of ensuring everyone was led safely around the fort and that shooting at certain targets was well under their control.

This is most certainly a shoot date not to miss if the "Toads" have the energy to host another in the future.

Thank you for a great day!

What a fantastic shoot!

Radar and I had a great time, great company and it was an absolute pleasure shooting with Old Bloke

The venue was amazing with really well thought out shots, I've never shot indoors before and some of those dark confined spaces were quite challenging with everyone trying not to bang their bows on the ceilings and walls

We loved the shot down the cannon and the apple off William Tell's head too!

All in all a great day made even better when I won the ladies AFB gold medal nearly 100 points ahead of the silver, not bad as I only picked up my Andy Soars bow the weekend before so was trying to adjust to higher poundage, new arrows etc!

Thanks for taking the photos Old Bloke, love the ones of Radar and I on the cannon (or should that be wobbling?)

Really looking forward to the next one.

Thanks for the kind comments folks, very appreciated

What a wonderful weekend we all had, from the comments we received everyone that came went back home with great memories of the shoot

Over 3 months of planning and effort from every member of Toad Hollow Archers paid off when we saw all the archers having a fantastic day out yesterday at "The Fortress Shoot"

Thank you, to all that came and made our day a very special one, we hope all of you that travelled from very far and wide to shoot in this extraordinary venue for field archery enjoyed it as much as we did

For Toad Hollow this was certainly one that ticked the box on the "This is a day to remember" list

I have uploaded the first picture of the shoot "The Start Cannon" to the front page of the club website Home we will have many may more pictures and video as soon as we can, but we still have a lot of work to do stripping out the fort

If you have any pictures please email us on info@toadhollowarchers.org

Richard Timms of Raven was drawn from the list of archers before the shoot to fire the cannon (lucky ***)

Massive thanks to Rob from Muscovy Archers for his fantastic performance as the Lone Piper on the ramparts

A full shoot report and scores will be up on our website in the next day or so, once I recover
