| In the woods of West Sussex I went and looked at a block of woodlands yesterday, as a potential plot of land to purchase. I was pleasantly surprised with what I saw when I got there. Large woods with little ground cover except the fallen leaves, almost no ground vegetation and almost no breeze, even though it was quite windy in the treetops.
Of couse there's one primary reason I'd want somewhere like this:
I'd like to invest somewhere as a permanent archery range. I could set up a few targets in amongst the woods and leave them there permanently. This land is quite a ways off the beaten track and had little/no foot-traffic. So there would probably be no risk of vandalism. It is under the flight-path for Gatwick, which means it is occasionally noisy from planes passing over, but otherwise completely silent. Secondly, it would be a great piece of woodland to keep as it is - a bit of natural land, with no buildings, no tree-felling and a sanctuary for animals/birds.
As simply somewhere to invest (no potential of building permanent structures on it), it is out of my price range individually. However, with a number of others (say 7) willing to investin equal shares, it would definitely be affordable. It would mean you'd have a permanent field course so you could shoot whenever, any time of the year. There would be enough space (at around 8.5 acres in size) to install a target range as well.
