| Hi Kevin - I shoot the 3d, tir nature and campagne like yourself in France, but dont carry all the stuff you do ! I have bow (Border Harrier, my pride and joy!), 2 arrows (and ten spares - I'm a longbow shooter !) in backwards facing quiver so it does't catch in the vegetation, a large bottle of water (used to use a backpack thing but have managed through the winter with just a bottle), spare (shot in) string Spare (shot in)tab in case of dropping it on the course Pen pocketful of talcum powder for sweaty hands old stubby screwdriver for getting arrows out of trees Arrow rake that fits in quiver with arrows. Binoculars for the 3d courses (limited use allowed on the french courses this year, and just occasionally I DO need to know where the kill zone is!) Chewy energy bar for when it all gets too much for me ! Even all this seems too much when you write it all down - maybe compound shooters are the same the world over but they're usually the ones with the fold down chairs in my experience. I can usually get round the courses in less than three hours, even the harder ones, so maybe that's the same as well! By the way - I hope that you're coming up to the European Archery Festival near Tours this year (28/29 June) See other thread for details or pm me or just look at the FFTA calendar. Joelondon and several others are coming over like last year and have done their homework so I think they'll be ready for us this time ! |

| I had cause to be very grateful last year to a well-equipped fellow archer who used hot-melt glue and the plastic tear-off tab from the lid of a drink bottle to make an emergency replacement when the arrow-rest on my young son's compound snapped off. It lasted the rest of the day with no trouble. So it's good if someone in each group is equipped for anything! | |||||||||||||||||||||||

| Still recurve barebow. - bow in the hand - 6 arrows in my quiver - T-gauge, stringer (but what for?) - pen in my quiver - hat on my head - arrow puller in my pocket (THAT'S REALLY USEFUL!) - spare nocks (never had to use them on the field, just at home, after the event) - wrench kit A small backpack with: - rainproof jacket (it's hard to shoot in it) - 1,5-2l of water - some food This year I will bring less stuff. |

| Aside from the bow, tab and bits that are bolted on, i carry Quiver which contains - arrows ( duh! and one huge XX75 to use as a prop for my bow ) - Brace height gauge. after an incident with a dodgy string i check brace every 6 targets or so, force of habit. - Allen keys for most of the sizes on the bow in the little pocket. - spare shot in tab. - glasses case with my specs and sunnies in. - spare finger sling water bottle usually my camera on the belt optics ( small field binoculars, soon to be replaced with a more powerful monocular ) knife sometimes a walking pole, depending on weather. unless im wearing them, waterproofs in thier carry pouches on standby. and thats about it! i need to get one of those backpacks with a seat though. every field shoot where we are inevitably bunching up on a target, i always get jealous of those who can sit down on thier little seat, and crack out the sarnies from thier backpack.

| I carry a quiver full of arrows, water bottle, US multi-tool {the bits are imperial}, knife, spare serving / D loop / peep sight{arc system interchangeable}, small spotting scope, lens cleaner and a wide brim hat for rain or sun. All of this fits nicely on my quiver belt.

| Do you shoot GNAS or NFAS? I have just started shooting NFAS and I asked if it was possible to use binoculars to see it the arrow is within the line around the 2D animal. I was told binoculars are not allowed in NFAS you have to number your arrows, assume a miss and shoot a second at the next distance. If its a hit when you get there, you ignore the second. Can anyone clarify? | |||||||||||||||||||||||

| no spotting devices are allowed under nfas rules as everything is unmarked,most big game rounds are three shots if needed from different colour pegs and the score gets lower should you need to shoot more, 1st arrow kill is 20 2nd kill 14 3rd kill 8 1st arrow wounds are 16, 2nd is 10 and 3rd is 4. when shooting at 3ds most of the time you will see if the arrow hits the tartget, the paper faces have wound lines which some clubs say at the beginning you have to be inside off, at our clubs unmarked if any faces do go out we normally say fur and feather which basically means any part of the animal, |
| |||
| At THA we usually say that on paper faces you shoot to wound lines, and if unsure then take another arrow After all if you aren't sure that the arrow is "in" then you probably need a little practice anyway, and as you have paid for 3 arrows why not use them ? ![]() Oh and for the 3D we allow fur and feather (not bases) as long as the arrow is stuck in ![]() When i shot GNAS field I found that looking at the target before shooting I could spot the arrow pattern and see if most went high or low or in, and adjust a little, no such luxury in NFAS |
