Question What does this mean....

Being a newcomer to field archery and instinctive shooting, could someone please enlighten me on the meanings of the terms string walkers, face walkers and gappers,
Thanks and good shooting,
Andy.

String walking is where the archer uses the nocking point to walk up or down the string to change the arrow angle for that set distance. for example leave 1" gap between top finger and nock for shorter distances, or have all fingers over the nock for another distance. This tends to pull one limb more than the other depending on distance.

Face walking is similar, but the offloadings on the bow are more constant. The idea is you change your anchor point to change the angle of the arrow to get the distance estimantion right. for example, index finger on you cheek for short or index finger off your jaw.

Gap shooting means anchor stays constant and so does the place you pull the string, you use the point of the arrow to get a aiming reference. use the top of the sight window for the close shots and the pile for 40yards or what ever it ends up. The idea of arrow length and window size makes sight mark tuning possible.

Or true instinctive is a Gap system but without concious thought. you look at the distance and shoot what you see. The other 3 systems say, that target is 35 yrds, so i need to aim with my point off the belly... or i need to have 2 fingers over, or a need to anchor on my eye tooth.

This is a 2 second explaination. you would need to speak to someone with experience in whichever form to get the in's and outs of it.

String Walking : Rather than draw/hold the string by placing the fingers near the arrow you place them on various positions on the string relevant to the distance of the target.

Face Walking : Using various different anchor points on the face depending on the distance to the target, so using an anchor at the bottom of the jaw for one shot then an anchor point near the eye for another

Gap Shooting : Basically point of aim, basically using practice you work out how much gap you leave between where you want to hit and where you aim the arrow.

More details here....
