Smile What a day!!

Just had one of my best archery days ever. We already have a beautiful field course up here in Cawdor, in the Scottish Highlands, but blue skies and nearly a foot of snow today gave it a magical quality. The whole course looked totally different without the familiar sight marks and snow weighing down branches obscured a couple of butts requiring us to shoot under, over or through the branches sending up sprays of dry powdery snow. I even had to shoot a few arrows to knock snow off the targets themselves. Shot an animal round as I didn't feel like losing any arrows in the snow which creaked las we walked over it. Got totally covered in snow when a tree shed its load on me when I disturbed it pulling arrows out of a target. It snowed lightly for a bit which looked amazing with the sun shining through it. Took a few photos to remember the day but they never turn out as good as you'd hoped. Shot two rounds of 28 and then the snow started dumping down as we were leaving. Just myself and a friend and his Jack Russell. I love field archery!

Sounds like a fantastic day Macbow - you conjure up an image of that classic painting by Pieter Brueghel - 'Hunters in the Snow!. Down here in West Yorkshire the cold is just annoying - can't practice outside (getting too soft) and my workshop would double as a meat store - roll on summer!

I was in Cawdor last summer as part of a 'visit the Scottish relatives tour' and loved the place- we had a day in the castle, and I recommmend the guidebook to you if you ever visit if only for the refreshing text from the last Earl.

In fact the gardens were the best part of the visit. Beautiful layout, broad vistas and small nooks & crannies combining to form a real haven of peace. Macbow you're a lucky archer!

Pete
