| For field archery either with my recurve or compound I use the width of my fingers to try to judge range. It works fairly well considering I don't get to do much field! I do this because I find that my estimation is way out between open fields and trees.

| In a Marked Fita shoot I use gapshooting. Since it is on welldefined distances. Wich you can train and train and train. In any type of field shoot i use full instinctive, since I'm absolutley crappy at determine distances. ![]() So it's back to point and pray for me! ![]()

| The problem is, if the archer changes anything in the shooting form, or arrows, or anything, the sight marks will mess up. And of course most competitions (here) doesn't allow any marks on the inner side of the window for traditional and barebow divisions. |

| I have heard (some secondhand info, so don't rely on it) that a lot of Hungarian top level longbow (AFB made by Imre Nagy) shooters aim with the edge at the top of the window. It may be a reliable method when shooting short distances, as the gap is too big... Since some archers questioned this shooting method, Imre makes his newer bows' windows with a radius, rather than edge. |

| Using a custom sight windows Gilf: The distance between your eye and the top of the arrow for any serious competitor should be one of the more fixed items on there form. This offers near horizontal arrow flight. When the window is cut properly, then the archer has the use of: These depend on arrow speed, but are good enough estimates and knolegde of you bow is essential for any top score to be achived Bottom of the bunny at approx 12 yrds and under the spot at 15 yards white and black above spot for 20yrds top of face for 25 yards just over for 30 yards then you start on the point of the arrow. taking you from 55 and onwards then you can half the point to top of window for middle distances. ZolcsiBB: That radii is needed in AFB, but this is mainly a Recurve tactic to help gain some of the best scores over marked distances. We know this as on some of them, we made the custom windows for these people. With the advent of lighter and faster bows, this method of sighting should take you out further on this near horizontal shooting.... |
