| Windknot, thanks for letting me try the Falcon. Very easy on the arm, not like my AFB. |

| Hello All, resurecting the thread somewhat and asking my own twist on it as such here is my own request for info. having just completed my second robin hood day down in kent shooting up loads of 3d targets and shooting instinctively, I have found that I absolutely love this way of shooting and wish to add it to my activities. With this in mind I am looking to buy a flatbow/longbow type thing (only been on the modern recurve stuff so my terminology in this field is minimal) the dilema/question I have fallen in love with a borders Harrier bow (only from pics at this point, but am going to visit them middle next year and make a purchase after playing). so...... in the meantime would you guys recommend me getting a cheapish flatbow style thing to shoot to build up my strength and skill in this arena, before splurging the £500 on the borders (i'm thinking back to my experience of building through 20lb up to the 36lb (41lb on fingers) that I am currently using, without the practice and build up I would have spent a lot of cash moving up limbs etc). or do you think it is better to miss out this lower quality product and wait and love and cherish the new bow, but maybe not get up to the full poundage i may have been able to? hope this makes sense as a question. oh and finally any ideas on a cheapish bow to go with (been looking at the millenium metis bow on bowsports for £120) any advise would be great. cheers Joe |

| Hi Joe I do believe I had a similar conversation with Mrs Joe at SoCo,any way if your coming to Quicks next Saturday have a look at their flatbows. A friend of mine has been using one he bought for about £120 and I was well impressed at its performance. Also have a look at the small ads on www.nfas.net as you might get lucky there. |

| Joe, I've owned both the Samick SLB and the Internature Viper, and both were decent bows for the money. They seem to sell for around the £100-125 mark, I'd give the SLB the nod myself, but the Viper is a better looking bow. Go figure. Also, don't overbow yourself- 40# at 28" is plenty for now- it'll get you around any field course around. And while you're in Quicks, get yourself a fletching jig and a taper tool and start making your own arrows- you'll recoup your investment in the first three dozen arrows. Jakes |

| If your technique is good and stable then go straight for the border harrier ! I have been shooting one for the last year here in France and its great - easy to change to from the recurve as it has the shaped handle that you will be used to, and easy on the handshock that you can get from other bows. If you can handle it, then go for it, but remember that its a sort of porsche equivalent of its type (Yes I know there are others ! ) and if you're not a stable shooter already it may magnify your mistakes and prove no better than any other cheaper model. BUT if you work at it seriously it will reward you tenfold. IMPORTANT - DO learn to make your own arrows and be meticulous about them - you can't shoot a bad arrow well, no matter how good you are. |

| I'd have to agree with Karen. Go straight to the Border. If you want to go to a heavier (50#+) bow, don't worry. The best advice I was given when I bought my bow (59# at 25 1/2", I draw 29" Works out at about 72#) was to draw & let down the bow, 5-6 times a day, every day. You will soon get used to the extra weight plus, as a bonus, it makes shooting the target rcurve sooooooo easy! ![]()

| Hope you dont mind me tagging onto this thread - i am looking for anoccasional Field Bow- and wondered if anyone has experience of the one piece Quicks Hunter - know it is cheap - will put my money into a nice recurve. Just want something to use everys often Thanks |

| The Samick SHB (aka Quicks Hunter) is a really good bow for the money. It's pretty much a copy of the Bear Grizzly, which isn't a bad starting point. Although I haven't shot one yet the new Spikeman recurve looks like it's well made, and it's about the same price. Jakes |

| I'd be careful with the Samick bows, whatever name they're under. They might not be overly priced, but (like many things) you get what you pay for. Many people find the words "barge pole" combined with "wouldn't touch with" coming to mind when asked about them, including some respected dealers.
