YAA/NCAS Fita Field Champs

At the risk of pushing it down your throats, this is just a reminder that the Yorkshire and Northern counties Field champs are to be held at Riggwelter in Otley, W. Yorks this year. They are open to all GNAS members but especially Yorkshire members and all those of the Northern Counties. This is your chance to give field a go and see for yourself how much fun it can be. We make this even easier for the Yorkshire members by making their champs a marked round only so you don’t have to learn range estimation! Find out why field is so much more rewarding than target!
Entry forms are on the Riggwelter web site, if you have any questions send me a pm.

Entry form and cheque are now in an envelope, ready to be posted.

I'm going to attempt it in the Compound Limited category. I used to shoot a lot of field back in the olden days of my first spell in archery, but haven't shot it for about 14 years. Should be a laugh (for anyone reading my scoresheet...)

You are in the presence of a triple champion, don'tcha know? Yes indeed, I am now the compound limited champion for Yorkshire and the Northern Counties, and compound limited winner of the Riggwelter Open.

All the other compound limited shooters were too scared to turn up, so the fact that I shot the lowest score of anyone on both days didn't affect my march to victory. I could also claim the vacant YAA records, but...well, to be honest, I'm not even going to put THOSE scores in the club's records book, let alone in the Yorkshire records. I'd list my excuses for the low scores, but I don't think you'd appreciate a 50 megabyte post.

Raffle-wise, my numbers got pulled 5 times, but I only claimed one and handed a ticket to Shirt to claim another. By the time my numbers came out, the aardvark and the booze were long gone.

Thanks to Dr Evil and Joyce for being good shooting companions, and to Swaledale for a jolly good tourney.

Bloody good weekend, much appreciated for the ticket TJ - that air compressor came in useful on the way home as I appear to have ANOTHER slow puncture... sodding car - that's been the only downside to the weekend (apart from the judge who seemed to think that "I was 30 yards past the target, and you saw my yellow coat" was a good reason to walk directly behind the target while two of us were at full draw...).

Very nice courses, a couple of targets where I thought I had it down pat only to be caught out by a courselayer who clearly knew their stuff. There's also the potential for several years worth of distinct courses there in terms of ground, so here's hoping they run it again next year. Also nice to see some familiar faces shooting a bit of field like Abby and Jared as well as Tim.

Finally, big thanks to the people who did the catering and marshalling. It might have been their first FITA field shoot, but they definitely seemed to know what to do and when so the whole weekend went really smoothly.

Thanks, all!
