Ben, I agree with Haywain in that the one time you tried it, you went to the field shoot from hell. Course laying is a skill that most of us are proud to get right. We work on the course at our club for at least a couple of months leading up to a shoot.
The subject about shooting at animal targets? Field archery was originated by bowhunters practicing their skills. I think it would be hypocritical to say it is not simulated hunting and put roundell faces up. You can still have the spirit of the hunt without having a bloodlust. If you want to shoot at roundells, then shoot GNAS field. It's that simple.
Target archery isn't that innocent anyway. It's a simulated battlefied, and there isn't much difference between a straw boss and a Frenchman, both are pretty dense.

Correct,
Target Archery is a simulated Battle Field.
Measure the height of 'the gold', compair this to the average height of the centre of the chest to the floor.
Look at the angle (15 deg) and look at the angle of an Archer pulling traditional bow to shoot a distance, about 15 deg.
Only diferance realy is the boss dont shoot back, thank god.
