Sorry Jimbo, got meself a bit off topic there! I always carry the knife in the top left of the first picture. As far as I'm concerned a 'good' archery knife needs a very strong blade, all the way down to the tip just for digging wayward arrows out of trees/rocks/cattle. It needs to be sharp enough (& hold the edge well enough) to be able to cut an emergency taper on a wooden shaft cleanly & easily. It also helps if it's big enough to be used for cutting small branches/briars out of the way when collecting aforementioned wayward arrows! What it doesn't need to be is a £4 E-Bay special, with a 14" blade, spiked knuckle-guard, compass, torch, GPS & kettle in the handle that you so frequently see at field shoots.........mind you, the kettle could be handy
It always makes me smirk/chuckle/laugh-out-loud when you see some of the guys (& Gals) at field shoots, walking aroung like they're expecting to be attacked at any minute (you'd think so at any rate, with the hardware they're packing )

I've looked into sourcing blades in the UK & europe, but for the price you can't beat the US. I have a deal worked out with George in Ohio (I buy close to 50 blades a year fom him!) & his prices take some beating, value wise.

Here's ma shiv:

Near enough actual size. To be honest I'm a bit scared to put much force on it since it looks a bit flimsy. but it's very pretty!

Blimey, you lot make me feel so inferior. All I carry is a Victorinox Jelly light in a fetching shade of blue. Ideal for cleaning my pipe, trimming my finger nails with the natty little scissors and removing unwanted nasal hair with the tweezers--what more could you want!

And you're terrified of me for carrying a little whip in my quiver! Pot. Kettle. Black.

I usually have either of a next pen knife in my quiver that is annoyingly blunt and doesn't have a locking blade (windage *way* out after shooting in a gale, shot into the woodwork at 100yrds, snapped off screw in point, blade collapsed into my thumb but barely cut the skin and didn't draw blood), or a 4in stiffish locking blade that I badly sharpened on a wheel at the airfield. I bought it for a survival exercise as it was 2quid at aardvark and it's done me well. It's also got "the hunter" written down the side of it = kudos.

My third and probably best buy

The first knife I had lasted about a year, was a small sharp pointy copy of a survival knife, but the tip broke at the beginning of this year.

Second knife was false economy. Cheap and advertised as perfect for digging arrows out of trees on eBay.
eBay Knife
But it was made of soft steel and no matter how sharp the knife is, one use and it is completely blunt - I gave it to my son, his arrows don't dig in so much.

Third and probably best buy, was a British Army survival knife.
My knife
My middle finger left hand can testify to sharpness, I wasn't paying attention one day and took the flesh down to the bone - didn't feel a thing it was that sharp. Still have the scar

I bought a knife (online) for archery - didn't really consider the size - when it turned up I couldn't believe it! I used it once for finding buried arrows and it cut straight through one before I felt it touch anything!

Wow Chris! Theyre lovely I've always fancied having a go at forging one of the Viking 'Ladies' knives. They're soooo deceptively simple-looking!
