Oak Tree field shoot 4/3/07

Well, that was a bit bloody wet. And muddy. Muddy and wet.

I forgot my waterproof trousers; my gloves were soaked beyond use in no time at all; I fell over twice, once with my bow, which got covered in mud; I finished the day chilled to the bone.

But:

I hit nearly every target with the first arrow.

I had very few twos and threes.

I even hit the "one arrow only" tiny targets, which I hate.

And when I plugged the kill on the the last target I jumped off the shooting platform with a yell, because I'd just gone round a field course for the very first time without blanking a single target.

Score - 572 on a 37 target course. Third place was 616, so I wasn't too far behind.

Weldone John. Sounds like you enjoyed your days shoot. Even though though you were wet, damp, muddy n cold. P.s. Congrats on the score. N

Well done John, that’s a good score for BB, especially in yesterday’s awful weather.

I didn't score much more at Bicton yesterday. It wasn’t quite the wettest, but with the continual very strong wind, it was about the toughest conditions I’ve shot in. Several archers dropped out before the end, including Mick who was completely soaked to the skin. The woods are not dense and a quite a few targets were out in the open, it was very difficult to hold on the target in the strong wind.

Thanks all, I was really chuffed

First place went to Rob from my club, with over 700 points. Mind you, he did get 4 24s in a row at one point

Looking back, I think the most satisfying thing about the day was that I started to get a good feel for how to set up a consistent draw length, pick my aiming mark and then focus on the target until the shot just happens. I'm looking forward to the next one... although hopefully it'll be a bit drier

Would that be SVYF on the 25th, the one that we are shooting together?
