Different bow types, different technicalities. If you want a really technical discussion, try talking to longbowmen about their arrows, or wood types.
But what draws you to compound? Without wishing to sound patronising, I have seen many take the style up because it gives higher scores, just as they go to longbow to give an excuse for missing. Each type requires as much, if different, skills, physical and mental. I would say, as with everything, give it a try, borrow a bow and shoot. No amount of advice can beat actually having a bash - before you buy all the equipment!
Though I must say those Oneida bows look really "dark"!
