i`d say try it out it maybe to heavy for him, my daughter is 11 and my long rod was to heavy for her so she now has a 12" rod which i`ll add weights to at intervals to get her used to the weight (she`s shot 2 jnr bowmans so far with her rolan recurve 16lb)
