Try a well-stocked Arts & Crafts store. They generally have a range of some of the brightest, snazziest coloured ropes in different styles and sizes. That's where I get my crazy coloured ropes like the one in the photos.
| For the laces, try Millets, or any good camping store - they sell them for walking boots.
For 'string' go to a yacht chandlers - miles of the stuff in every colour you can imagine (plus a few you wish you hadn't!)
