British/World record status - the difference?

Apart from registration costs for the club, what is the difference in regards to the actual quality of judging that takes place at these shoots? The only differences I can see are:
WRS:
FITA Star/FITA target awards can be claimed
World records can be ratified
Costs a lot more to apply for
Scores can be used for British selection
Scores can be used for national ranking

BRS:
Only national records can be claimed
Only good for MB/GMB, not rankings or selection scores

IIRC, the same rules were in place at the only non-WRS shoot I did this year. The only difference I noticed was that there were fewer judges and they seemed a lot more relaxed - but that could have been the 8ºC weather!

I'm in the process of writing to GNAS to find out why scores shot at British record status shoots can't be used for British selection or British national ranking.
