I use an Angel Cordovan tab but my third finger was always taking a beating until recently. It was partly relieved by adjusting my elbow but what helped the most was making a full commitment to a deep hook. Even though I thought I was using a deep hook and back tension my fingers were opening slightly just before the release. I find it very difficult while holding 50 lbs at full draw to just relax the hand. But when you do the result is superclean and pain free. What helped my release was pushing my bow arm towards the target - a slight push through as opposed to a pull through.
