What is the best sight position?

Becuase my bow is not so strong I need to use my sight scale near to the bow (ie not extended out much) to get sufficient distance outdoors. I have tended to keep the sight in this position indoors too on the basis that the nearer the bow, the less it is cantilevered out from the bow and hence the "easier" it will be on the bow hand (arten olympic principle!).

But I can't help but notice that most archers I see have the sight fully extended so it is as far forward as possible. I assume this is to provide finer adjustement, but maybe there are other good reasons I am missing.

Are there any other compelling reasons for moving the sight far forward?
What do other users of AI do and why?

Becuase if not is it worthwhile chopping my sight arm down to save a little weight.
