...but seriously. I decided, for no good reason, that I wanted to try a longer axle to axle (peep closer to eye, less twitchy IMHO). I didn't like the longer axle to axle Mathews and couldn't get on with the Guardian that you kindly let me play with.

Uncle Les (chief aardvark) had just the bow for me (black Hoyt 38 Ultra with Vector cams) and at a v good price.

There were two other influences:

- Our club Hoyt sponsored archer
- First indoor tournament coming up for this year. I always do silly things like changing things before a tournament.

I'll let you know after I shoot it in earnest tonight. In the store the bow felt very stable and I was particularly impressed with the Vector cams they felt smooth and fast.

I'll be playing around some more with stabilisation etc tonight. (The nice people at aardvark helped me get the centre shot, nock height, etc sorted). I also moved from an Premier Infinity rest to a Trophy taker, and so having changed 2 parameters I guess its not a fair test.

Geoff, the 38Ultra is fabulous and I'm sure you'll love it. Eileen used here's yesteday to win at Caldy (another of Les's recommendations). I personally found it a tad heavy but have not tried it in my draw length.

Good luck at P&S next week.

Steve

Having now played with the Ultra 38 I have the following observations:

The draw is very smooth (Vector cam)

Very quiet...not sure about the StealthShot string supressor. Do they wear out? Is it likely to fail and change the characteristics of the bow mid round?

Hand position was natural

Had to put a lot of weight on the front of the longrod to get the dynamic balance feeling right (SF longrod with 3 weights on the end).

Sight picture was more stable than the Switchback.

I may have to go to a smaller peep now that the peep is closer to my eye!

Do any of these comments surprise you Marcus?

Not at all.
The stabilizer comment was what I would expect given the riser shape.

Sounds like it should work well for you.

Thanks for the comments Marcus. Do you have a view on the StealthShot string suppressor?

Personally I would remove it, but then I remove my Alphashox from my Hoyts as well and the Hush kit from my Bowtechs, and the string suppressors from my Mathews.

I had a play with the StealthShot on the Seven37 and removing it seemed to make no difference. If I was to use one I would make sure it was not touching the string at rest. The Mathews system is really badly designed because it actually changes the brace height a little, so if you avoid string contact at rest then you should avoid it wearing and changing your shot.

The question is, will keeping it on give you more points? If anything goes wrong with it will it cost you points?
