Yeah, I forgot to remove the protection from it when I first submitted it

Ill try it again.

The reason it had an AIUK logo on there was because it originally had the logo from somewhere else, and I had to remove it and I couldnt think of anything else to stick on there.

Ill just make it blank.

New File Added: Electronic Scoring System

Downloads: A new file has been added by sp220:

Electronic Scoring System

This is a scoring system that can be used in real time during a target archery competition in conjunction with running slips to make scoring extremely efficient as without hassle. Must be used with some sort of computer or laptop. A printer will also be required if a hard copy of the results needs to be produced.

When the scores have been entered the system will automatically produce an on-screen results page, listing the top three scoring shooters from each bow category, in order. There is a given option to print off this results page, and then an option to clear the scores.

To run this program you will need microsoft excell. It is however, not a spreadsheet.

DO NOT save changes to the program once you have used it. Simply exit the program, and click "no" when you are asked if you wish to save changes.

Instructions:

The intro screen will appear once the program is open. follow the instruction and click the icon to continue.

Then, once the main menu is displayed, simply click on the first bow category you wish to add scores for, and then enter the shooter details and running score into the form that appears, and repeat for each shooter by scrolling down on the form.

Once you have finished entering the scores for that category (note, you do not have to enter full scores yet, you may add a running score), then select "close" on the entry form. You will then be taken back to the main menu to allow addition of further scores to other categories.

To update scores to the same categories more than once (IE: for competitions where you may wish to enter running scores), then simply enter the bow category again, and update the scores. You may do this as many times as you wish. Note however that after the first time you have added scores for a category a small "tick" is applied in the box next to the button for the bow category. This is to let you know which catagories have had scores added to them already.

When you have finished adding scores, then simply click on the "results" button, and you will be taken to a results page, with the full list of calculated results. An option is displayed to print these if you wish. If you clear the results, the system we will be re-set to start a new tournament.

If you wish to print a FULL list of running scores, then you must go to the main menu, and select which category you wish to print first from the drop down menu labelled "View individual scoresheet". When you visit the scoresheet you wish to view, simply select the print option from the drop down menu, and select to print the page only.

This above may also be used to correct any errors on an individual scoresheet, or even to delete an entire entry in the event of a competitor retiring from competition.

When you have finished using the program, and click to close it, do not save changes to the program.

I have now added the file again, with instructions.

I didnt remove the logo, because I had nothing to replace it with (my imagination is dead today). But if its not suitable then just delete the picture file from the button.

It was tested a world record status FITA 18 tournament alonside a "manual" scoring system. Much to the gripe of those who preferred things to remain traditional (if it aint broke dont fix it routine) it was far far far far quicker than the mental arithmetic (despite all the "no, I can add up" comments).

Anyone thinking about doing a competition on a large scale with many competitors may want to think about this system.

It was almost used at WRS FITA, but only made it through half the day untill the laptop of the users packed in.

Visual Basic.

It runs in microsoft excell, it is pretty much a spreadsheet... only there are no spreadsheets to be seen at all....

its just a big pile of macros thrown together into something relatively usefull.

Its seen little use for how good it actually is. The reason is because I made it a few years ago (when I was 16), and when you tell someone you made a scoring system to be used on a computer, when you are 16, very few people actually care.

Haha I know that one, its ok making the software but getting people to try it is a whole other kettle of fish.

I've actually managed to get myself lined up to create some scoring system over the summer break, I'm going to start it off as a very specific piece of software (it'll handle a bray 1 and then create a knockout table) then move it to be more general and possibly prep for a wider release, most likely as donationware (its not cheap being a student you know!)

The best scoring system I've ever used has been a pen and piece of paper. Never failed yet....and pretty cheap....and afterall..how much technology do you need to add ten plus ten?

Well, given the number of addition errors on scoresheets I process at tournaments, probably more than is available (The worst I have ever seen is an experienced archer, apparently using the "countback" method because he usually scored 9s and 7s adding up "MMMMMM" (longbow archer) as 54 - and no one spotting it.)

I admit I havent seen you programme yet and look forward to doing so when it achieves the moderators approval

I note your comments about "DO NOT SAVE"
Does this mean that no data is ever saved?
What happens when my battery fails or some burk unplugs the power half way through entering the scores? Is all of my work lost upto that point meaning I'll have to start again?

Yes I forgot to mention that.

Basically, if you need to save a score (say if it has more than one session for a competition, and you need to save the scores of a previous session) then simple "SAVE AS" and make the file a new name (of you session etc). Just make sure you have an original copy of the program to go back to, as it makes life easier when you need to start afresh.

To be honest the whole program is re-set once you clear the scores anyway, but you are taken to the main menu screen rather than the intro screen. And there is no way to get back to the intro screen without opening the file again from its original saved position.

Thats the only difference after you have saved really, but Im picky.. sooooo... (maybe thats too picky, but oh well...)....
