AIUK Winter League 2007/08... dumb question?

I'd really like to try & enter the AIUK Winter League, but I've never tried a postal round or online league before so I hope someone will help me here with some REALLY basic questions...

Registration was dead easy, by the way, and score submission looks straightforward. Very user-friendly.

Do folks try to hold one Portsmouth (or whatever) round per month at their club, just for AIUK? Or do you shoot as many as you can and submit your top score? Or does it have to be a FITA- or GNAS-registered event, where a certified judge has signed your score-card?

Or do folks just shoot when they feel like & submit the scores? That would be easiest for me (the biggest advantage in this kind of league is the convenience of it), but I want to make at least SOME effort to keep it in the spirit of the competition.

I think most people will submit their best score each month, whether from a competition or practice. My club can just about squeeze in a Portsmouth on club night. There's no set protocol, except that a GOLD is a 10, not a 9.

As Clicki said

The Winter League and VGP are very informal shoot when/if you can leagues.
The only stipulation is that all scores for a month must be in on the last day of the month.

We've also had one or two requests to change bow style for this year. Unfortunately changing your bow style will result in your scores being reset. To change this to allow you to shoot different bows in different years would mean a complete overhaul of the scripting used for the league. I'll try and change it for next year but there's a lot of work involved and I don't have much time at the mo'

It means that some people have requested to change bow type for the start of the next league. e.g. they shot compound for the 2007 VGP but would like to change to recurve for the 07/08 Winter League. It's not possible to swap bow type halfway through a league. Hope that makes sense

submitting scores

Thanks for clearing that up, guys!

One more question: the "Golds" score is pretty clear; but what are "Hits" in a Portsmouth and how do you count them?

(I just have this sinking feeling that someone is going to have to tell me "It's the number of times you actually hit the target" and I'm going to feel REALLY dumb ...but I figure it's better to ask)

It's the number of times you hit the scoring zone on the target

You mean any gold, or just an inner gold? Excuse my ignorance - scoring is still a great big mystery to me: metric, imperial, indoor, outdoor etc.

And are Portsmouths shot at 40cm targets? Come to think of it, are all indoor rounds at 40cm targets?

Within the gold, the smallest ring is a compound 10, the large ring is the recurve 10 and the outer gold is a 9..... does that make sense?
