Journals

Hi, didn't know where to put this, but I was wondering when/why the journals went 'member only'? I used to link to mine like a blog but now people have to join to read it, I think. (Is that right?)

I'll check the permissions, it's not something I remember doing! Could be permissions were reset when the forum was upgraded.

Had a quick check and the permissions are set to allow unregistered users to read the journals. Can you give me any error messages your receiving and a page were your linking from so I can check it.

Ok, I checked and I got it wrong! LOL For a change! Sorry! You can still link direct to a journal for a nonmember, but they can't access the journal index from ther dropdown menu along the top.

Ah, got you, looks like there could be a coding error in the menu.

To be honest though, the current journal system we're using is a tad past its sell by date. Each time I update the board the journal system has to be hacked to bits and recoded to make it work. It's going to be replaced sometime soon with a fully integrated blog system so if I get chance to fix the menu I will but its not high on the priorities at the mo'. The menu still does work for registered users.

When the new blog is introduced all current journal entries will be left in place as an archive.

Are we able to copy our journals across to the blogs? I'd be sad to give mine up, as it's the first time I've ever kept a diary! I know it's drivel but I'm quite proud of it!

Ooh, the blogs thing is up!

The only thing is the link to it doesn't show on the main page, Dave.

Also, can we use blogger software to publish directly, or do we have to do it in the same way as we did the journals?

The journals will still be there, Rach, it's just I can't guarantee compatability with future forum updates. I'm going to have a look to see if I can find any import scripts so hopefully they can be transferred to the new Blog bit.

Yeah, it's got me confused that one Navbars on every page should be pulled from the same source so I'm not sure what's happened!

You can give it a go, I'd be interested to hear if it works

Well, is the navbar in the forum/index.php, or the main index.php?

Sounds like a stupid thing for me to say, but with them both being called index, there might have been a minor mix-up?

Doubtful, I know, but just wondered.
