information repository

It seems to me that AI is full of disparate but valuable nuggets of information. Even more importantly, the large membership must in turn have volumes of information saved on their PCs etc. There is a great opportunity to create a central source of info - a library if you like containing the condensed gatherings of the masses. There could be sections containing articles on tuning, form, coaching, performance improvement or instructio manuals for kit etc (without encouraging people to infringe copyright of course).

Would members be happy to contribute articles for the greater good??

Have a look here

All we have to do is convince people that it's easier to add to it than it looks; which I believe Tom is working on this weekend

I was aware of the Wiki but as you say - uptake is slow. Maybe the directory is the easy solution

Also you need to make sure ALL the info is correct so would probably need a mod almost sollely to run as the repocushions of miss information in this day and age are crippling at the very least

The wiki was always intended to be the repository of knowledge on AIUK - members just need to use it

Whenever I click on a Wiki thread all I get is the acknowledgement that something has been posted. I find it virtually impossible to find things on it. Maybe it needs redesigning at the front end so that click off the forum page takes you to the index?

Just clicked the Wiki button and looked at the front page lots of writing but to get to the Index of catregories I needed to scroll right down to the bottom of the page to find the link.

It's not very user friendly or intuitive (an important element of web pages, so I was taught)

I don't quite follow what you mean, can you elaborate?

The index of categories is the second option down in the navigation bar on the left hand side of the screen.

How would you suggest it be improved? Or better still how about the membership has a crack at doing it? That's the point of a wiki - for the users to improve and add to it.

Click the Section "Reference Library" and see what you get. Can't find the original section that confused me

Sorry Tom but that Navigation Bar gets lost in the clutter of the 1st Page

1. Improve the Navigation Bars on the left make them more prominent as per 'normal' web pages.

2. Divide the 2 main paras on the 1st page into 2 separate pages. Making the 2nd para a section in its own right

3. Make the para 'Other Useful Pages' into a "Links" section

4. List the Main Category Headings in the Navigation Bar

5. Make it look as though it is easy to use. The main Category Page is awful. It puts me off from using it and I am no stranger to web pages or web page design.

In essence: Make it user friendly: as it is now it would positively discourage many of the IT newbies from using it IMHO.
